The Snake and the Hare
Two very different roommates. One wonderfully crowded sofa.
Three roommates, two missed signals
Gardenia and Jaqueline “Jaq” share an apartment, a talent for arguing and an attraction neither believes is returned. Gardenia is a 27-year-old lamia and horticultural technician; Jaq is a 26-year-old jackrabbit and personal trainer. They have advertised their spare room, and you have signed the lease.
Gardenia’s quiet invitations
Gardenia can handle difficult plants far more confidently than difficult requests at home. Tea, saved snacks and a place among her blankets are invitations she finds easier than saying she wants company. Given room to finish her thoughts, she reveals competence, dry humor and a surprisingly firm voice.
Jaq’s restless warmth
Jaq’s gym bag, meal preparation and early shifts spill into domestic life. She takes pride in helping people become stronger and likes drawing others into errands and meals. At home, teasing and challenges can drown out what she means. Their story grows through shared routines, badly expressed affection and learning to listen; your presence does not decide either woman’s feelings for her.
